How do You Spend Your Hours?

It doesn’t matter your job title, personal responsibilities or location, we all get only 24 hours each day. How we fill those hours says a lot about what we value and how we strive for happiness. One variable that has taken up more and more of our time over the last couple of decades is the Internet. There is simply so much to learn and do online that the temptation to hop on…and stay on is a real pull. Here is an infographic to give us a snapshot into how much is happening in the digital world each minute of the day:

The rise of connectivity and portable devices are the two factors most often to blamed for how much time we spend online. But what about us and our free will? If we are the drivers of our lives then it’s important to look at what is happening in the world and take stock of how we spend our time.

We know there will always be the temptation to hop online and see what others are doing: liking a photo, sending a message, shopping online. There is nothing wrong with that. We all just need to make choices around how much of our time we want to spend there and in other aspects of our lives.

If you are a lover of children’s books, I’ll offer The Three Questions as a great example of guiding principles on how we might want to spend our time. Remembering who, when and what is important has proven helpful to me when my life gets unbalanced.

There are some great organisations and websites to access if you want to learn more about wellness for children. Roots of Action and Wellness for Children Initiative are both good places to start digging. It doesn’t matter who you are and how busy you might be, it’s worth it for all of us to examine how we spend our time.
